Operation Christmas Child

During our garage sale this weekend, my friend who was hosting the sale gave me a pamphlet for "Operation Christmas Child" a project of the organization Samaritan's Purse. In this program boxes of gifts are sent to children around the world living in difficult circumstances. It is a way to share the Good News of God's love with hurting children.

1. What you can do is use a normal sized shoe box (which you can leave as is or wrap the lid), or you can use a small plastic box.

2. Determine if your gift will be for a boy or girl and ages 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14.

3. Fill the box with a variety of gifts for the child.

4. Include a $7 donation to help cover shipping and other costs.

Some gift ideas are:

School Supplies

Toys

Hygiene Items

Other (hard candies, mints, gum, T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights with extra batteries)

A Personal Note - You can include photos and an address in the box. The child MIGHT write back to you if you do!

If you are interested, please go to Samaritan's Purse to find out the details! I think this would be a fun opportunity to make some handmade items for a cause! (toys, knit washcloths, jewelry, clothes or embellished clothes...)

So please, if it is in your heart, take a look and take action or at least pray for these children...

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14, NIV

This is a wonderful idea. I'm going over to the site you linked and see what they have to say. I'm going to print it all out and take it home to Florida in a couple of weeks (we'll be there for most of Nov.) and get the rest of my family involved. Thank you so much for sharing this worthwhile effort.
